Work Experiences
I worked for UIC to take the Defense Industry Reserve Duty (a kind of military service in Taiwan). The main focuses included video conferencing and surveillance.
- Video Management SystemAs a project leader, I led a team to develop a PC-side video management system software which monitors dozens of video camera channels as well as abnormal events by applying extreme programming to accurately controlling the schedule, quantifying the team performance and automating the regression test cases.
- H.264 Video Codec Quality AssessmentI designed the test video clips with my colleague to assess the video quality of the available H.264 video codec solutions based on DSP or ASIC.
- Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR)The source code was written in Motorola 68K assembly without meaningful variable naming in recognition of the two types of magnetic ink check fonts (E13B and CMC7). I was assigned independently to manually decompile the code into a comprehensible C form without loss of functionality in support of another department.
Other experiences included surveying the video analysis market, implementing a prototype of the ONVIF standard (web service based) in the surveillance industry, rewriting an embedded web server to introduce design patterns without sacrificing performance, and so on.
- Java Call Center
Due to the university and industry liaison system, I developed an integrated call center here.
Professional Trainings
- Linux Kernel and Device Driver, Yen Jing Ling Industrial Research Institute, NTU, 2007
- uCLinux Porting Case Study, Finesse IT Partners Inc, 2007
- ARM Embedded System Design, Finesse IT Partners Inc, 2007
The training focused on the ARM7 architecture, interrupt handlers and bootloader.
Teaching Experience
- IEEM Summer Camp, National Tsing Hua University, 1999
I was in charge of giving lectures about web authoring and computer hardware components as well as assembly to 80 high school students. I prepared all the teaching materials and planned a lab exercise independently.
Honors and Awards
- Merit Award, Undergraduate Project Competition, Department of IEEM, NTHU, 2002
- Honorable Mention of Department Web Design, College of Engineering, NTHU, 1999
- Merit Award, Programming Competition in the Grand Industrial Engineering Cup, 1999
In the competition of 5 teams, the goal was to gather data from other computers to plot a linear regression chart. Though most participants might be familiar with data structures and algorithms, I was probably the only one who knew how to program network sockets then.
Certificates
- Sun Certified Programmer for Java Platform (SCJP), 2001
- Certificate of English Proficiency, National Tsing Hua University, 2000
I passed written part of the English Proficiency Test held by the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature once a year.
Selected Extracurricular Activities
I joined the Rover Scout Crew, which was composed of 5 teams in National Tsing Hua University. There were 100 members in this crew. I learned various leadership and organization skills in the following activities.- Baloo Camp, 2002
This camp was held to pass unusual skills and knowledge from graduate members to fresh blood. As one of the graduates, I also designed the camp logo and camp T-shirt. - Rover Orientation Camp, 2000
As the camp host, I was in charge of the planning and management of the camp, esp. the schedule and budget control. There were 60 participants in the camp. - Rover Qualification Camp, 1999
After passing all the skill qualifying exams, I became a regular rover scout. - Rover Training Camp, 1999
As a newcomer, I was forced to live in the wild for 5 days and get used to learning by doing.
- 5th Money DJ Professional Financial Investment Seminar Course, Taiwan, 2004
- Elite Planning Camp by Taiwan Planning Inc., Taiwan, 2003
- Mind Building Training Camp, Taiwan, 2000
